OVER 100 YEARS OF SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF LUGELA
Few natural therapeutic mineral waters can boast such a long and deep history of scientific study as LUGELA. Since the beginning of the 20th century, it has been the object of systematic research that has lasted over a hundred years. During this time, a fundamental scientific base has been formed around LUGELA, including monographs, candidate theses, scientific articles, experimental, pharmacological, and clinical studies.
The first scientific works dedicated to LUGELA appeared in the 1920s. Even then, researchers concluded that its chemical composition and healing properties significantly differ from most known natural mineral waters. Scientists paid special attention to the exceptionally high content of natural calcium chloride and the unique combination of macro-, micro-, and rare elements. (Travel in Georgia)
In the following decades, research acquired state significance. Specialists in the fields of balneology, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, therapy, dermatology, gastroenterology, and other medical disciplines took part in studying LUGELA. Research was conducted in research institutes, clinics, and medical institutions of the Soviet Union, which allowed obtaining a large amount of experimental and clinical data.
Scientific publications show that not only the chemical composition and physical properties of the water were studied, but also the mechanisms of its effect on the human body. Researchers evaluated LUGELA's influence on metabolism, hematopoiesis, gastrointestinal tract functions, liver, skin, immunological reactions, tissue regeneration, and other physiological processes. Various methods of medical application of the water were studied in some works, highlighting the high level of scientific interest in its properties.
Over decades of research, fundamental monographs were published, candidate theses defended, dozens of scientific articles and official medical recommendations issued. These materials not only preserved historical value but continue to be of interest to specialists studying natural healing factors and their applications in modern medicine.
It is precisely thanks to this many years of scientific work that today there is the LUGELA Scientific Library. It unites the works of several generations of scientists, archival documents, theses, monographs, and research results, allowing tracing the development of scientific understanding of LUGELA for almost a century.
The history of scientific study of LUGELA continues today. Modern analytical methods allow deeper investigation of its mineral composition, physicochemical properties, and potential mechanisms of biological action. New research complements the foundation laid by previous generations of scientists, confirming the unchanging interest of the scientific community in this unique natural source. (mdpi.com)
More than a century of continuous research has formed around LUGELA not just a scientific archive, but a full-fledged evidence base, making it one of the most studied natural therapeutic mineral sources in Georgia and of significant value to the history of medical science.
